As of right now, it looks like Issue 2 in Ohio is going down by about 20 points and is likely taking the political career of John Kasich with it, so why the heck was Mitt Romney in Ohio yesterday?
Romney found himself barnstorming with the GOP governor of the Buckeye State yesterday in support of his initiative to end “Obamacare” in Ohio. The catch is that he happened to be in the state at the same time folks’ minds are on taking down the harshest anti-union bill in the state.
It would have been politically wise for Romney to avoid the state until after the election is over, especially since he will not face any opposition by the time the Ohio GOP primary comes around.
But, Guy Smiley just had to show up and do one of his signature flip-flops. At first he said he had no real opinion on Issue 2 – then he said he supported the governor’s initiatives 110%. Talk about taking the wrong side at the wrong time on a bad issue. In one fell swoop Romney has managed to look like a flip-flopper again, and attach himself to an issue that is universally unpopular in a state he has no choice but to win next year. Can’t wait to see this one blow up in his face in a campaign ad.
