On the day of Nelson Mandela’s memorial service, Dr. Jason Johnson was interviewed on The Daily Circuit on Minnesota Public Radio to discuss modern South African politics and the legacy of Nelson Mandela. Joining Dr. Johnson was Charles Villa Vicencio, former director of research for South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and current visiting scholar at Georgetown University.They described the process of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which gave immunity to perpetrators of crimes committed during the apartheid years in exchange for their public testimony about their role.
