It’s tough in this country right now. The recession has up to 15 million people out of work, millions have lost their homes or soon will, and on a state level Republican governors are more concerned with limiting voting rights and worker rights than fixing anything. Now more than ever, America needs a hero. Is Phoenix Jones here to save the day?
Phoenix Jones is the 23 year old self proclaimed leader of a group of “Superheroes” called the “Rain City Guardians” that patrol the streets of Seattle and fight crime. Phoenix dresses up in yellow and black ‘stab plates’, carries batons and has stated in interviews that every member of the team has martial arts or military training. As bizarre as it seems Phoenix has been credited with stopping a few robberies as well as a car-jacking. Unfortunately, like all crime fighters he’s been mistakenly arrested for assault when he attempted to stop what appeared to be a night club fight four days ago.
I’m a big comic book guy, so I’m the last person to discourage people from taking to the streets to fix their neighborhoods, but this has the makings of a disturbing trend. The “Rain City Heroes” are acting out the last 3 issues of the “Kick-Ass” comic and that hasn’t gone too well for some of the main characters. Should this trend continue there might be people out in the streets a lot less qualified or organized – and they might end up dead or hurt trying to solve or stop crimes.
Besides doesn’t Seattle belong to another Superhero? We’ll keep you posted. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more from these guys.
