It’s been three years now.
Fam: she’s not coming back. Stop waiting by the phone. Quit hoping you’ll run into her at Safeway. And for God’s sake: throw out that old T-shirt of hers you’re still holding on to “just in case she comes by to pick it up.”
I just feel like saying everything above every time there is another article that comes out talking about Hillary Clinton as a potential presidential candidate in 2012 or 2016. TIME Magazine has released a new ‘hypothetical’ poll showing that Hillary Clinton would soundly beat both Mitt Romney and Rick Perry in an imaginary match-up in 2012. Really?
Hillary Clinton who couldn’t win her own party’s nomination in 2008 against a Black guy with a funny name and no executive experience? Hillary who likely would’ve faced a Congress just as hostile and a Democratic party that didn’t trust her to begin with had she become president? Must we set the record straight, again?
Beyond the fact that Clinton has made it clear over and over again that she has no interest in running for public office again, the consistency of these stories must come from one of three places
1. The remaining Hillary-crats that are mad that mean ole’ Barack Obama took that job that she was entitled to as a second wave (White) baby boomer feminist.
2. The occasional liberal racist who is still pining over her candidacy in a subtle double standard imposed on Barack Obama for not being the magical negro that he was expected to be.
3. Or … some lazy reporters who think that when there’s a slow news day they can dredge up some fantasy hypothetical election to get page hits.
Look, if reporters are going to keep talking about a fantasy election can they at least get more creative? Dick Morris wrote a book about a doozy of a race – and at least according to the folks at TIME magazine Condi could still get into this thing.
