On Headline News, political science professor Jason Johnson described Bill Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention as “Schoolhouse Rock… a lecture with some jazz mixed into it.”
At over 40 minutes, President Clinton’s speech was apparently starting to wear a little long on the crowd but according to Johnson it wasn’t really intended for them anyway. “This was for the news reporters,” he said, “[Bill Clinton] was laying out the case [for Barack Obama] for the press, not the audience in the arena.”
And what about Clinton’s propensity for self-promotion? Johnson tells HLN’s Robin Meade, “This was a grown-up Bill Clinton… none of this speech was about him.” Adding that the former President has “turned from a frenemy to a real advocate” for Barack Obama.
