So let me get this straight. After years and years of yelling, screaming and Tea Party uprisings the majority of Americans are now in favor of the individual mandate according to a new CNN poll?
Huh?
While this comes as interesting news just 24 hours after the Supreme Court said it will hear the case against Obama’s healthcare plan it just goes to show how muddied the entire healthcare debate was way back in the glory days of 2009.
Liberals in Congress always argued that there was a groundswell of support for the individual mandate and there were some sporadic polls to support this claim. However, the massive amounts of money spent by the insurance industry on lobbyists, commercials and the Tea Party turned the healthcare debate into a debacle and scuttled any real chance of legitimate reform occurring. This was not helped by the fact that, as usual, President Obama was willing to capitulate on key parts of the legislation – like the Public Option.
