Twenty years ago today, American comedic icon Redd Foxx passed away – or as we Generation Xers know him: Fred Sanford. It’s strangely fitting that his catch phrase from his 70’s hit Sanford and Son still resonates today, especially with tonight’s GOP debate. Whenever he got in trouble Fred was always telling us “It’s the big one!” and tonight is definitely “The Big one” for Governor Rick Perry in the Republican presidential nomination.
Rick Perry’s been the “big Dummy” of the last month in the Republican race. The Niggerhead Ranch story, his comments on immigration and failure to show up big in debates has led the Tea Party faithful to leave him for Herman Cain, and Romney has slowly slipped into an unimpressive lead in Iowa. If Perry does not distinguish himself tonight as a man who can land hits and take hits he might be about to join Elizabeth (Dole?) in that big political graveyard in the sky.
